PLUS, in case you missed it, the Executive Director of the Pasadena Education Foundation presented a check for $2,000.00 to Mrs. Ingber and our Annual Fund Chair, Steve Cole, for Longfellow School!!!

Countdown to Jog-A-Thon 2014!

2014 Jog-a-thon_English_11x17

Longfellow Elementary School students will hit the ground running on Friday, November 7th, to help raise money for our school through our PTA. All students will participate in this easy and healthy fundraiser. There will be three, 20-minute jog-a-thons on the baseball field. The fun will start at 12:30 pm and end at 2:15 pm.

How can you and your student(s) help? It’s easy, just collect one-time pledges from all your friends and family (at least 10 sponsors.) Any size donation is greatly appreciated!

What will the funds be used for?

  • school assemblies
  • field trips
  • educational programs
  • classroom supplies
  • maybe a new speaker system for our outdoor movies? (my personal suggestion!)

Monies will be collected on Friday, November 7th

Lost your pledge envelope? Print the sponsor sheet below and staple to any envelope.

Harmony Project Pasadena at Longfellow

image001As the after school music education program, VYMA Music Project at Longfellow now becomes “Harmony Project Pasadena at Longfellow,” our program will fundamentally stay the same. It will continue to be a partner with Pasadena LEARNs and the same professional music instruction, at no additional cost to LEARNs students, will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, after school.

There’s still time to enroll your student! Applications will be accepted through October 31st, 2015, and may be obtained in the LEARNs Office or from our Program Coordinator, Angie Uriu. Applications will also be available at the Parent/Caregiver Meeting scheduled for THIS Wednesday, October 29th at 5:30 pm in the auditorium. Questions? Please contact Angie at

What is the Harmony Project?

Investing in Children & Communities through Music

  • “To promote the healthy growth and development of children through the study, practice and performance of music.
  • To build healthier communities by investing in the positive development of children through music.
  • To develop children as musical ambassadors of peace, hope and understanding amongst people of diverse cultures, backgrounds and beliefs.”

Why should your student join the Harmony Project?

Brain Development: Over time, music learning shapes the development of the brain and nervous system in a way that improves students’ language learning and acquisition and also improves a student’s ability to listen in a noisy environment and hear the important messages, despite the accompanying noise.

Grades, Behavior and Mood: In our most recent impact evaluation survey, a high proportion of students’ parents indicated that – since joining the Harmony Project – their child has shown improvement in his/her Grades (82%), Behavior (82%), Mood (80%), and Health (70%).

High School Graduation & College: In 2010, 100% of Harmony Project’s high school graduates went on to college. Each was the first in the family to attend college.

21st Century Learning skills: Harmony Project students discover the world and other cultures through the music they learn. They also participate in classes with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The process of learning to play a musical instrument takes place over multiple years, and develops a student’s discipline, persistence, strategic thinking, creativity and accountability. Ensemble participation develops the ability to collaborate well with others.
